I especially love to draw human subjects in daily life, as the expression of this activity can convey a joy for living. Energy for life can be depicted through a brush stroke, and I strive to capture this energy in my work. This expression may be vivid, direct and bold, or may reveal itself through subtle nuances.
On my recent journey through China, I visited several northwestern cities in Xin Jiang, famous for trading activity and connected by the Silk Road, and several northeastern cities in Jilin. The multi-ethnic society in the Xin Jiang region has evolved over centuries to create a rich diversity that both blends and retains individual facets of life there. We encountered individuals in their daily lives in the rural villages, each with unique lifestyles and customs, colorful dress, ornaments, food, drink, religious beliefs, culture and art. The paintings featured in this current show were created during or after this special visit.

Kettner Receptions *

*Kettner Receptions are held every other month and organized by a group of galleries, art businesses and artists. These receptions are held at the 2400 Kettner Arts Complex, which houses most of the artists in the area and is open to guests, friends, clients, fans, visitors and other artists.

Paintings can be viewed year round at Market Street Group.
